About us
Valley Water manages an integrated water resources system that includes the supply of clean, safe water, flood protection and stewardship of streams on behalf of Santa Clara County's nearly 2 million residents. The district effectively manages 10 dams and surface water reservoirs, three water treatment plants, a state-of-the-art water quality laboratory, nearly 400 acres of groundwater recharge ponds and more than 275 miles of streams. We provide wholesale water and groundwater management services to local municipalities and private water retailers who deliver drinking water directly to homes and businesses in Santa Clara County. In 2018, the water district was certified as a Great Place to Work®, and as the "Healthiest Employer in the San Francisco Bay Area" for companies with 500 to 1,999 employees.

In case you didn't hear, we were named one of WaterSense's Partners of the Year! This award recognizes Valley Water's efforts in promoting water conservation through various programs and initiatives, such as our Landscape Rebate Program, which offers rebates to homeowners or businesses that swap their lawns for a water-wise landscape. This award achievement wouldn't have been possible without the work of our conservation team. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to saving water!

Nothing like Washington, D.C., in the spring! Valley Water's Board Chair Nai Hsueh led some of our senior staff on the annual spring trip to our nation's capital to advocate for funding and policies that benefit the Santa Clara County community. The group held more than 15 meetings with various groups and Members of Congress. The spring trip coincides with the release of the President’s budget and the kickoff of the annual appropriations process, allowing us to engage with decision-makers early about our funding priorities. Our top priorities include additional funding for the Anderson Dam Seismic Retrofit Project and the Recycled and Purified Water Program and continued federal investment in the South San Francisco Bay Shoreline Project. We can't wait to go back in the fall for more!

Did you know there used to be a famous mining district in New Almaden? The New Almaden Mining District mined and processed mercury from 1845 through 1971. Unfortunately, these operations released large amounts of mercury into parts of the Guadalupe River watershed, which flows into South San Francisco Bay. Now, we're working to identify, test, and implement actions to help reduce mercury and methylmercury in reservoirs and in fish.
